Event Details

The UCB Afghan Student Association is hosting its annual Culture Show on April 26, 2009 at UC Berkeley’s Pauley Ballroom.

Our show is themed Past, Present, and Future and is sponsored by the UC Berkeley Near Eastern Department and ASUC.

Our cultural show is designed to educate members of our community about the Afghan culture, politics, and society. Although in recent years, our country has suffered tremendous setbacks due to political instability, poverty, and brutal wars, this year, we have decided to design a show around the celebration of BEAUTY and cultural endowment, which Afghanistan has been blessed with.

Building on the success of the Afghanistan Exhibit at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum we hope to attract a wide range of intellectuals and laypeople to focus in on the enduring legacy of Afghanistan's rich cultural heritage and perhaps inspire some to become active in restoring the country's cultural legacy.

The Culture Show includes:

-Intellectual/Activist Speakers

-Poetry

-Musical Performers

-Professional Dance Performers (Afsaneh Dance Group)/Traditional Attan

-Fashion show by AFGclassics

-Catered AFGHAN FOOD

Donations of $10 for entrance. And all additional donations are also accepted.

All proceeds will go to Omeid Intl. (http://www.omeid.org) For the Orphans of Afghanistan.

SPACE IS LIMITED SO RESERVE YOUR SEATS NOW!

Our mission is to preserve, promote and embrace the diversity of Afghanistan and its culture through social gatherings, public education, youth outreach and fund raising to support relief operations in Afghanistan. Our ambition is to help the children of Afghanistan whose lives have been affected by the war and we are currently raising funds for Berkeley Bamyan Education Foundation and International Orphan Care.
